Gym

So, after a week break from working out – I jumped back into the gym with the ambition and gusto I had when I left off.

My reason for taking the break were simple, and plausible; I was camping, and fishing for four of the days – the rest was spent trying to recover from the painful sunburn I’d acquired while rowing the canoe (good exercise, btw) and having the water reflect on my shins during the times that I’d fish along the shoreline.

A bonus to this break would be that my muscles had some time to relax, regenerate, and therefore were rearin’ and ready to go by the time I hit the recumbent bike this afternoon.

Today I spent 2.5 hours at the gym, burned 502 calories on cardio, and did a total upper body workout.  I also learned a new machine — after talking to the personal trainer about a tickling sensation I was getting on the shoulder press machine.

I know it sounds strange – and even the trainer kind of laughed – but when I do the shoulder press, my belly tickles.  Seriously. I know it doesn’t make sense to get the urge to laugh when working out – but it happens on this machine consistently.  Especially when I begin to fatigue.

Needless to say, the trainer had little advice to offer on the situation, claiming I was the first person ever to approach her about this phenomenon, promising she’d research it.  She advised me to do ab stretches prior to using it, and also directed me to another machine that works the shoulder muscles (without the tickle induced giggle).

I don’t know….all I know is I feel good, I’m feeling a lot healthier already.  I just need to use the new shoulder machine and avoid the shoulder press to avoid making a total ass of myself as I burst in to hysterics about a ticklish belly muscle.

Strange.
